Leadership for Literacy
Providing The Very Best Leadership For Our Schools
Note: The principal must attended this workshop with the selected administrators from the school.
As administrators we need to ensure our schools provide all students with successful experiences in literacy. We need to provide our teachers with strategies that help inform both student and teacher about the ways to improve competencies in reading and writing. This workshop will examine what these strategies are and how to set up a literacy program in our schools which successfully caters to the needs of each child. Issues to be discussed will include:
- examining the key components of a literacy program
- ensuring the goals of our literacy program are met by each teacher within our school
- a look at the type of resources needed for a literacy program
- effective means of organizing literacy resources
- ensuring our teachers understand the reading/writing process
- initiating positive change through professional development
- providing accountable and ongoing assessment procedures
- reporting to parents
