Developing Higher Order Thinking Skills Within the Lesson (Grades 7-9)
This presentation has participants brainstorming cognitive tracks of activities as they are developed from their district's curriculum. The tracks are then aligned with the lesson to transition students from the literal level of cognition through interpretive and analytical as inspired by Bloom's Taxonomy. A variety of prompts for student motivation are included. Handouts include reproducible exercises for use in developing higher order thinking skills. The session's outcome is to provide participants with a working platform of strategies to engage student learning.
