Reading: Comprehension

Creating an ACTIVE Reading Workshop at the Elementary Grades (K-5)

There are few greater instructional joys than watching kids learn to read with deep and lasting comprehension. In this engaging workshop, author and teacher Barry Hoonan will demonstrate research-based comprehension strategies developed by Keene, Harvey, Goudvis, and Miller.

Barry will show how he constructs a reading workshop with his students and the intentional strategies he develops throughout the year. Barry will show how to help students increase their reading proficiencies through daily reading invitations and how to help readers develop their understanding of text by asking questions, making connections, tracking what's important, inferring, visualizing and synthesizing.

If you are wondering how to conduct a reader's workshop that teaches comprehension strategies, this workshop promises to be practical and effective.
