Leadership for Literacy
Creating a School-wide Literacy Effort (Gr. 6-12)
In this session, Dr. Bill Brozo challenges teachers and teacher leaders to plan ways to implement schoolwide literacy reforms that meet the needs of all learners. Drawing on years of research in middle and high schools around the country, Dr. Brozo presents critical guidelines for establishing literacy reforms that are engaging, inclusive, and comprehensive. He demonstrates ways in which all teachers and staff can put a common shoulder to the wheel in making positive contributions to the overall literate culture of the school. Dr. Brozo shares actual case studies of teachers with the support of teacher leaders crafting responsive curricula and initiatives that helped maximize the academic potential of students from a range of ability levels and cultural backgrounds.
