Early Literacy

Life, Language, and Literacy (PreK)

Literacy depends on word knowledge and word knowledge depends on world knowledge. It's never too soon to build on the meaning-making that already drives young children to be learners. This session offers strategies that maximize the reciprocally supportive relationship between language development and concept-building. Phonemic awareness, print concepts, alphabet knowledge, beginning phonics, reading, and writing are introduced through play, classroom environment, and the context of meaningful communication.
