The Essentials of Reading; Research Proven Instructional Practices for K-3 Classrooms

Target Grade Level:  K-3.


An overview of phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension

Have fun with the fabulous Reading First Five! Designed for schools beginning to implement the five focus areas of instruction as directed by Reading First, participants will be introduced to the summative reading research as presented in Put Reading First. Effective instructional practices for phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency and vocabulary will be discussed. Specific strategy instructional techniques for each component will be practiced. Finally, thoughtful and reflective assessment ideas designed to guide instruction will be presented.
