Dr. Keith Polette

Brief Biography

Dr. Keith Polette has a Ph.D. in English from Saint Louis University and two Master's Degrees from Idaho State University (one in English and one in Drama).

Currently, Dr. Polette is the Director of the English Education Program in the Department of English and the Director of the Southwestern Children's Literature Festival at the University of Texas at El Paso. He recently received the UTEP College of Liberal Arts Award for Excellence in Research and Teaching and the UT System Chancello's Council Award for Outstanding Teaching.

Prior to moving to El Paso, Dr. Polette was a Mentor Teacher and an English/Language Arts teacher for both remedial and gifted students in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Polette has published over 30 articles in scholarly and professional journals, 8 books, and 3 children's books. His most recent publications are Read and Write It Out Loud: Guided Oral Literacy Strategies, Teaching Grammar through Writing (published by Allyn & Bacon), Isabel and the Hungry Coyote and Paco and the Giant Chile Plant (published by Raven Tree Press).

For the past 20 years, Dr. Polette has given hundreds of presentations at national, regional, and state reading conferences, and at local schools throughout the United States and Canada.
